Coastal Skipper (RYA Approved)



An advanced course teaching skippering techniques for the sailor with good knowledge of cruising.
Skipper a cruising boat in a variety of situations. Learn techniques needed to undertake longer coastal and offshore passages, boat handling, navigation and pilotage by day and night.

Course Details

Previous Experience

15 days sea time ( 2 days as skipper), 300 miles, 8 night hours

Assumed Knowledge

Sailing; Day Skipper standard, Coastal Skipper Theory (Shorebased standard)

Course Content

Passage planning-navigation, pilotage, meterologoy, rules of the road, Preparations for sea, provisioning a boat maintenance and repair work. Cruising boat handling under power and sail. Dealing with emergencies, i.e. use of safety equipment, adverse weather conditions

After the Course

Skipper a cruising boat on coastal passages by day and by night

Duration

Live aboard 6 days

Assessment

The sailor can be assessed by a Yachtmaster Instructor for Coastal Skipper Certificate of competency This assessment will be arranged separately to the course.
