Competent Crew (RYA Approved)
This course introduces a complete beginner to cruising, it teaches personal safety, seamanship and helming to a level to allow you be an active member of the crew of a cruising boat. By the end of the course you should be able to steer a yacht, handle sails, keep a look out, assist in all day to day duties on board and have sailed to some of the beautiful locations along the coastline covering areas from Cork to Mizen Head.
Course DetailsPrevious Experience | None | Assumed Knowledge | None | Course Content | Basic seamanship and helmsman-ship, parts of the boat and rigging, sail handling, ropework, personal safety equipment, emergency equipment, man overboard procedures, introduction to charts, tides and basic meteorology | After the Course | To be able to assist in the daily routine of a cruising boat i.e. handle sails, steer a yacht, keep a look out. Next Recommended course is DAY SKIPPER or SHORE BASED CRUISE WITH GLENANS in Dublin | Duration | Usual option is a 6 day live aboard course but it can be run over 3 weekends or 3 days plus weekend. | Assessment
